I was sweet sixteen when the original film was released, and this stage production instantly transported me back to the days of Whitney Houston and Kevin Costner. I’m still in disbelief that the film is 33 years old!

The adaptation for the stage is absolute perfection — loud, tense, emotional and full of powerhouse vocals. I loved every minute.

For anyone unfamiliar with the story, The Bodyguard follows global superstar Rachel Marron, who is being targeted by an obsessive stalker. When former Secret Service agent Frank Farmer is hired to protect her, sparks fly in more ways than one. What unfolds is a thrilling mix of danger, romance and iconic music, including Queen of the Night, I Have Nothing, Run to You, and of course, the legendary I Will Always Love You.

Sidonie Smith is nothing short of sensational as Rachel Marron. From the moment she stepped on stage, she commanded the spotlight with effortless star power and poise. Her vocals were out of this world — rich, powerful, and packed with emotion. From the opening number, I felt goosebumps race up my arms as she hit every note with precision and heart. Sidonie masterfully captures the essence of Whitney Houston’s iconic songs while adding her own soulful flair, making each performance feel both nostalgic and refreshingly new. She brings depth and vulnerability to Rachel, balancing the character’s fierce independence with moments of tenderness and doubt. Every scene she’s in feels electric; you can’t take your eyes off her. Sidonie Smith is truly a standout talent and a perfect leading lady for this production.

Adam Garcia was effortlessly cool as Frank Farmer. I remember seeing him in Saturday Night Fever in London with my mum and sister years ago, and I’ve been a fan ever since. It was such a treat to see him back on stage, bringing that same charisma and natural stage presence that made him such a standout all those years ago. As Frank, he delivers a performance that’s both understated and powerful – the kind of quiet strength that draws you in without him needing to say much at all. His chemistry with Sidonie Smith is undeniable, creating a believable balance between protector and love interest, making Frank the perfect counterpart to Rachel’s fiery confidence.

1/6

Sidonie Smith (Rachel Marron) and Adam Garcia (Frank Farmer) are phenomenal in the leading roles, working in perfect harmony together throughout. The chemistry between them was undeniable — every glance and exchange was filled with tension, warmth, and genuine emotion.

A special mention must go to Sasha Monique as Nicki Marron, Rachel’s sister. Her vocals were sensational — soft and soulful, adding depth and emotion to every scene she was in. And let’s not forget young Fletcher, who completely stole hearts on stage with his adorable presence and huge talent! The entire ensemble deserves credit — the dancing, energy, and staging were seriously outstanding.

James-Lee Harris deserves recognition for his chilling portrayal of Rachel’s stalker. Without uttering a word, his menacing presence, combined with clever lighting, sound and costume, sent shivers down my spine every time he stepped on stage.

Directed by Thea Sharrock, with associate direction from Tracy Lane, screenplay by Lawrence Kasdan and book by Alexander Dinelaris, this production is slick, cinematic and deeply immersive. I especially loved the concert-style moments where Rachel is performing — I genuinely felt like I was part of the audience at her show. For a moment, I could even say I’d “been to the Oscars,” thanks to the brilliant staging, lighting, set and costume design.

The music is the heartbeat of this show. Whitney Houston’s timeless songs are delivered with passion and precision, each one earning cheers and applause. Sound design and effects were spot on, heightening the tension in key moments — there’s even a perfectly executed jump scare that made the whole audience gasp in unison!

In short — The Bodyguard is sensational. The audience were on their feet for the finale, buzzing with excitement, and many were dancing their way out after the special encore. It’s the kind of show that leaves you singing, smiling, and maybe even shedding a tear.

Do not miss this! The Bodyguard is at Milton Keynes Theatre until Saturday 25th — and trust me, you won’t regret it.
