Santa: Peter Rabbit & Friends Grotto at centre:mk Review 🐰

centre:mk’s Peter Rabbit & Friends (TM) grotto brings storybook nostalgia to life in this year's magical visit to see Santa!

For many local families, a black and white logo with the word cmk in a circle .centre:mk’s Santa’s Grotto has become a fixture in the festive calendar. Ours is no exception.

Last year’s Norbert the Reindeer theme was a standout, full of gentle humour and charm. But this year’s transformation into the world of Peter Rabbit offers something slightly different: a warm, nostalgic return to a classic childhood tale.

The experience begins with a reception from the grotto’s team of Elves, who remain one of centre:mk’s strengths. Their energy is genuine, their interaction unfailingly warm, and they strike that rare balance between theatrical and authentic. They guide you throughout the process and my daughter absolutely had her favourites who made her giggle the most!

The first room features storytime with Mrs Rabbit and some of her friends as they hunt for some misplaced presents, presented in a cosy, intimate, magical setting. The staging is simple but effective, and the storytelling holds the room, engaging the children really well. It’s worth saying now I adored all the costumes – such amazing quality!

A “secret” route leads families to a second space (No spoilers but the kids loved it!) where the narrative continues and a lively Squirrel Nutkin makes an appearance from their secret hiding place. This was a highlight for many of the children present, including my four-year-old, who responded instantly to his cheeky personality. Decorating Christmas tree–shaped biscuits with icing and sprinkles was nicely judged in both length and complexity and gives the experience a hands-on element that often feels missing from modern grottos. Crucially, there’s no pressure to rush. Families are given time to enjoy it.

A meet-and-greet with Peter Rabbit himself adds an unexpected moment of star power before the final stop: Santa. centre:mk’s grotto has always excelled here, and this year continues the trend. Santa takes his time with each family, asks questions that feel personal rather than scripted, and holds the children’s attention throughout. The gift — Peter Rabbit-themed — is high quality and ties neatly into the overarching concept.

Overall, this year’s grotto is impressively cohesive. The theming is thoughtful rather than overwhelming, the pacing is gentle, and the combination of storytelling, character encounters and creative activity offer strong value. For families who grew up with Beatrix Potter and are now introducing those stories to their own children, the experience delivers a comforting hit of nostalgia without feeling dated.

centre:mk has produced another strong entry in a tradition that, for many families, marks the beginning of the festive season. If you’re looking for a Christmas outing that balances charm, craft and character, the Peter Rabbit grotto earns its place on the list.
