Our team took the chance to see the show with young ones in tow – a 10-year-old and a 3-year-old – and, to be honest, we were a little apprehensive about how they'd manage to sit through a full performance. However, we needn't have worried! Both were absolutely captivated from start to finish, with sheer delight lighting up their faces throughout – to see my 3 year old belly-laughing the way she did was an absolute joy and a testament to the magic of this high-flying production.
The production boasts a fantastic cast, headlined by the fab-u-lous Strictly Come Dancing star Craig Revel Horwood as Captain Hook. Revel Horwood delivered a masterful performance, blending a commanding stage presence with brilliant comedic timing and impressive vocals. He leaned into the "Strictly" references with flair, much to the audience's delight – the Darling family name couldn't have been more fitting for a cheeky quip or two!
Joining him was ventriloquist Max Fulham as the loveable Smee. Fulham, alongside his scene-stealing puppet sidekick Gordon the Monkey, was a hit with both kids and adults alike. Their chemistry was effortless, and their antics brought waves of laughter, with Gordon quickly becoming a firm favourite.
The show's titular hero, Ross Carpenter as Peter Pan, brought charm and energy to the role, while Zara MacIntosh sparkled as the feisty Tinker Bell. Evelyn Hoskins gave a heartfelt performance as Wendy, rounding out a stellar West End-calibre cast.
But it was the dynamic duo of Revel Horwood and Fulham who stole the show. Sharing the lion's share of the stage time, their partnership was a triumph – an entertaining blend of stand-up comedy, playful banter, and musical highlights that kept the audience engaged and laughing throughout – with jokes that appealed to the kids and in true panto style, some that were just for the adults too!
Visually, the production was stunning, with spectacular special effects, dazzling lighting, and impressive set pieces that transported us from the Darling nursery to Neverland. The flying sequences were magical, eliciting gasps of wonder, while a giant crocodile and the Jolly Roger pirate ship brought a sense of grandeur to the stage. The ensemble and acrobatic troupe, Acromaniacs, added an extra layer of energy and spectacle to the production, impressing the audience with their skill and dynamic performances.
Peter Pan: The High-Flying Panto Adventure is a true family treat, brimming with energy, humour, and festive spirit. Whether you're 3, 10, or 100, this show guarantees a magical night out that will have you laughing, cheering, and clapping along.
