Taking place on Sunday 21 June from 10am to 8pm, the event promises an expanded line-up of performances, installations and activities designed for all ages, making it one of the standout free events in Milton Keynes.
Inspired by the summer solstice, the Midsummer Festival celebrates the unique design of Midsummer Boulevard, which was intentionally aligned with the rising and setting sun. The space is transformed into a vibrant outdoor cultural hub, filled with live entertainment, creative workshops, art installations, street food and music throughout the day.
Organised by Milton Keynes City Council, the festival continues to grow year on year, attracting tens of thousands of visitors and cementing itself as a key date in the Milton Keynes events calendar. It brings people together from across the region to celebrate the start of summer in the heart of the city centre.
This year’s programme includes spectacular puppet processions from Handmade Productions, alongside roaming performances from The Wandering Oracles, Hearthfolk and the playful Moon Hares. Visitors can also experience immersive installations such as CANOPY and the Mud Plant Rave, as well as storytelling sessions, creative encounters and relaxed spaces designed to soak up the atmosphere.
Families will be able to take part in a wide range of hands-on workshops, including crafts, clay activities, flower crown making and corn dolly creation, with opportunities to contribute to collaborative artworks throughout the day. A diverse selection of street food and drink will be available, complemented by a curated music programme from The Craufurd Arms, showcasing some of the best local folk artists and emerging talent.
Designed to be inclusive and accessible, the Midsummer Festival offers something for everyone, encouraging residents and visitors to experience Milton Keynes city centre in a new and imaginative way while celebrating light, nature and community spirit.
“Midsummer Festival has quickly become a highlight of our events calendar, bringing people together in a really special way. It’s fantastic to see the city centre come alive with creativity, performance and activity, and we’re proud to offer a free event that everyone can enjoy. We’re looking forward to welcoming residents and visitors for what promises to be another brilliant day.”
